Holiday Knitting Ideas

Knit Lab Recap

We’re back from the Interweave Knit Lab event, and it was a fantastic weekend!  Thank you everyone who visited our booth.  We had a wonderful time meeting all of the people who were taking classes at the event and visiting the market.  We hope you enjoy your new yarn and we look forward to seeing pictures of your finished objects!

Many people asked about the blue vest we had hanging at the corner of our booth. The pattern is called the Silhouette Ribbed Vest by Tahki Stacy Charles.  It’s a free pattern on their site and you can find it here.   The vest was made by our friend Raylene, using our Willow Glen DK yarn in the Aegean colorway.  It’s a simple knit that will flatter many body shapes and uses approximately 4 skeins of yarn. A very versatile piece to add to your wardrobe as we head into the cooler weather.

The beautiful sweater displayed on a dress form in the opposite corner of our booth was made by our very talented knitting friend, Naomi.  The design is the Mishke Sweater from Coco Knits, and you can purchase the pattern for $7 here.  Naomi used 6 skeins of our Willow Glen DK yarn in the Chipotle colorway for her masterpiece. Stunning!

I’ll post pictures of both samples into our Gallery page tonight, in case you weren’t able to see them in person.

Holiday Gift Knitting

The holidays are just around the corner, and if you’re looking for ideas for quick but nice gifts, check out our free patterns.  The Brittany Cowl is a 1-skein pattern originally made up in our Willow Glen DK yarn, but can easily be adapted for using worsted weight or fingering weight yarns.  To make this up in a sock weight or fingering yarn, like the sample we had in our booth, cast on 240 stitches and then follow the pattern as written.  This will produce a cowl approximately 30 inches around with 10 scallops.   To make this up in a worsted weight yarn, such as our Willow Glen Worsted or Sonoma, cast on 120 stitches and then follow the pattern.  This variation will have 5 scallop repeats and measures about 18 inches in diameter. You can also mix it up by eliminating the P2tog in row 3 of the pattern repeat and doing a k2tog instead for a different look.  I’m working on a new sample using Willow Glen Worsted in the Fall Mix colorway, and it’s very pretty!  I’ll post pictures when it’s finished.

Shop Update

I will put up our remaining inventory into the shop on Wednesday, November 6th in the evening. We still have a nice selection of colors and yarn bases available. I will also have new photos of the colorways so you will be able to see them better.  In the meantime, call us if you are looking for a particular color/base yarn.

Fall Boutique at the Antioch Woman’s Club

We will be participating in the Fall Boutique at the Antioch Woman’s Club in downtown Antioch this coming Saturday, November 9th from 9am to 3pm.  This show has a nice selection of products from local vendors and artisans and is a great place to find special holiday gifts!  Admission and parking are free, and it’s easy to get to from the freeway.  See our Events page for map and directions to the show.

Have a good week!
